History

Freestone Medical Center opened its doors in 1947 as Freestone County Cooperative Hospital. The original facility underwent a number of expansions and renovations over its first 25 years. Then in 1975, a new facility was constructed and opened under the name Fairfield Memorial Hospital. More than 1,000 community members attended the grand opening festivities.

In 2010, we began a three-phase construction and renovation project. Phase I involved the expansion and renovation of the hospital’s emergency department, which was completed in the fall of 2011.

Phase II, which was dedicated in the fall of 2012, added 11,000 square feet. It includes a new front entry and lobby, as well as physician office and clinic space. Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, outpatient registration and an administrative suite are also housed in the new wing.

Phase III construction included a new six-room north wing, remodeling of the facility’s core, and remodeling of the east patient wing, completed in the spring of 2014.

Thanks to continuing support from the community and the local hospital district, we serve Freestone County and surrounding communities by providing a wide array of medical services including a 24-hour emergency department designated as a level IV trauma center, lab, imaging, inpatient care and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.

Emergency Department

Our emergency department provides round-the-clock care when you need it most. Designated as a Level IV Trauma Center by the state of Texas, our department is staffed by board-certified physicians 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week.

Our emergency nurses all have experience and training in the provision of emergency and trauma care including basic, advanced cardiac and advanced pediatric life support.

We have agreements in place with area medical transport services, ground and air, so patients can be transferred to specialty care as needed. Agreements are also in place for quick access to anti-venom treatment. A supply of blood products is in stock and additional units can be accessed quickly. The hospital provides full laboratory and radiology support.

The goal of the emergency team is to stabilize and treat emergent patients as quickly and completely as possible in order to determine the best options for on-going medical care in accordance with the patient’s needs.

Freestone Health Clinic

Freestone Health Clinic, the rural health clinic, is an in-network provider for Medicaid, Medicare and most private insurance plans. We provide you and your family members with primary care when they need it. Our services focus on wellness and prevention, as well as acute and chronic illness management and sick visits. We will listen to you and your concerns, coordinate care with specialists, and help each member of your family stay healthy.

At Freestone Health Clinic, patients are under the care of one provider who gains an understanding of your health needs.
